ABOUT US
The International Youth Leadership Program is a unique platform to promote crosscultural communication and collaborative academic research, which is initiated by Beijing
Normal University, along with the students from world's top universities, such as Harvard
University, the University of Oxford, the University of Birmingham and so on. It is dedicated
to cultivating new generation of youth leaders with the sense of social responsibility for
their countries and the world
MISSION
With the rapid pace of globalization, cultural diversity and integration have become features
of contemporary global situation. Those distinguished young leaders, represented mainly
by university students, spare no efforts to shoulder the historical mission of constructing a
prospective world where harmony is pursued and differences are reserved, and the sustainable
development is stressed
The International Youth Leadership Program is the unique platform we forged for the students
from all around the world and we are dedicated to accomplishing the following missions:
1 To stimulate participants’ potential
We aims to cultivate and motivate university students'ability of scientific decisionmaking and leadership competencies through practice.
2 To respect cultural diversity
We are striving to forge a multicultural communication platform to foster university
students'ability of cross-cultural communication and cooperation, and to promote the
co-prosperity of different cultures.
3 To pay close attention to community development
We start from investigating the surrounding communities and conduct productive
researches, trying to push forward the sustainable improvement of the communities.
4 To bring up outstanding citizens
Integrated with the four main elements—cross-cultural understanding, sustainable
development, scientific decision-making and international leadership competencies—
we exert ourselves to bring up future outstanding citizens of the world.

Promises
1 To extend the philosophy of "harmony but difference", "peaceful coexistence" and
deepen the understanding of different cultures through communications, aiming to
create a collaborative atmosphere of mutual respect and mutual support.
2 To encourage and support university students to observe surrounding communities,
and set up their own collaborative research model, trying to improve their
awareness and abilities of scientific decision-making through teamwork practices.
3 To foster future youth leaders who possess the knowledge of cross-cultural
understanding and scientific decision-making, as well as high sense of social
responsibility in the context of globalization.
4To promote student-oriented cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation, therefore
motivate students from all over the world to improve their competencies to bear
the historical responsibility
5 To arouse students'awareness of the community and society's sustainable
development, trying to optimize the environment of surrounding communities
with productive research and practice.
6 To conform to the "UN Academic Impact" principle
and fulfill its goals when
conducting the International Youth Leadership Program.
Program Features
1 International Youth Leadership --core training goal
The program aims to improve participants'English communication
and
leadership skills. Students will have a better understanding
of western
and eastern cultures when coming across culture shocks and challenges.
Meanwhile, they can also obtain abilities of
criticalthinking, problem-solving, team-working and
solutiondemonstrating.
It is the unique platform allowing students from home and
abroad to learn in communication, and to learn in practice.
2 Participatory learning
The curriculum of IYLP is jointly designed by Chinese and foreign students.
According to the course framework proposed by the Program Committee,
all the students will be engaged in course discussion and project design with
equal chances. The International Youth Leadership Program encourages all the students to share with each other about their
hobbies, culture backgrounds, customs and traditions, talent and skills
as well as their schools and hometowns, and thus motivate participants'
mutual understanding and sharing.
3Cooperative research
Being exposed to various self-designed research projects, both Chinese
and foreign students
will altogether go through the whole process of project design, research
conduction and
solution demonstration based on their interest and their major
backgrounds,
while taking
advantages of the resources in the Pearl River Delta.
4 Friendly English-learning environment
The program will adopt English as its major working language to generate a better English
learning atmosphere. It particularly gives weight to the practical use of English rather than just
learning it. Two student assistants, who are relatively good at English, will be appointed to each
class to help those in need
5A combination of indoors and outdoors activities
By adopting experiential interactive teaching methods, IYLP allows students to experience a western way of learning, and work closely with each other to practice and obtain knowledge in a real context when experiencing the local life and culture.
6Exhibition of the program
At the end of the program, we will have a grand presentation competition on findings of the International Youth Leadership Program Each group will show their research achievements respectively
7 Certificate both in English and Chinese
After the program, all the participants will be awarded a certificate of "Youth Leadership
Program" written in both English and Chinese by the Program Committee
8 Media coverage during the whole process
The university's press corps and major local Medias will be arranged to do follow-up reports during the whole process.
